35 RACEWAY

2023 COMPACT RULES


1.       Engine

 

A.  Only three (3) or four (4) cylinder in-line engines will be permitted. NO V TEC OR VARIABLE TIMING CAM ENGINES ALLOWED! 

B. Engine must match the brand (Make) of the car being used in competition.

C. Aftermarket and/or racing-type cylinder heads will not be permitted.

D. High performance and/or sports car engines of any type will not be permitted.

E. Turbo charged and/or super charged and/or rotary engines and/or engines originally designed with a variable cam-timing system will not be permitted.

 F. No aftermarket intakes or throttle bodies must be OEM part from same make [gm to gm, dodge to dodge etc.

G. Throttle body must be OEM part in size and shape from the OEM of car make [gm to gm, ford to ford and ect.] NO aftermarket polished or machined throttle body.

 H. Stock intake for make of car ie gm fo gm, No aftermarket intakes, No cold air intakes, Must be Stock-type fuel injection or stock manufactured carburetor only must be stock type breather system. A flexible rubber or plastic hose may be used in place of the stock air box tube. No smooth metal or smooth plastic tubing allowed. A cone-type filter is allowed and may be connected directly to throttle body.

 

2.  Electronics and Ignition System

A. Only 12 volt ignition systems will be permitted Only one twelve (12) volt battery securely mounted will be permitted

B. Traction control of any-type NOT PERMITTED.

C. Batteries:

1 The battery must be securely mounted with positive fasteners and brackets.

2. The battery terminals must be insulated or enclosed with a non-conductive material that will prevent contact with any part of the race car should the battery become dislodged from the battery mount.

3. If the battery is located in the driver’s compartment, it must be in a marine type case. The case must be securely mounted to the frame, either directly or by means of a steel rack. The steel rack must be constructed of minimum 1″ square tubing, and be securely welded to the frame or cage in a manner that will not allow the box or rack to move. An additional metal strap or bar must secure the marine type case to the rack or frame. All bolts must be secured through steel tubing or the frame of the car. Bolting through the body or floor pan is not sufficient.

4. One (1) mandatory battery disconnect switch must be installed. The switch must be clearly labeled with off/on direction within reach of driver and track official when standing outside of car. The switch must be directly in-line with the NEGATIVE battery cable and be capable of completely disconnecting the NEGATIVE terminal of the battery from the race car. Negative or “ground” wiring connections must not be made anywhere from the battery negative terminal to the input side of the disconnect switch. Only stock OEM starters in the OEM location will be permitted

D. Only one aftermarket tachometer, oil pressure and water temperature gauge(s) will be permitted.

E. The vehicle computer (ECU) maybe tuned, must be mounted in a visible location providing ease of inspection & is subject to confiscation for tech for any form of traction control.

F. no type of device capable of transmitting data allowed

3 Exhaust System

A. Headers are permitted.

B. Removal of the catalytic converter, air conditioning compressor and smog pump will be permitted.

C. Track rules require a muffler. catalytic converter maybe used as a muffler. They must be securely mounted. If it comes off during a race you will be blacked flag

 4 Engine Compartment

A. The engine and radiator must be OEM and mounted in the stock OEM location for the year, make and model of the car in competition.

 B. Solid engine mounts and/or safety chains will be permitted.

C. Accumulators and/or accu-sumps will not be permitted. 

D. Reinforcing will not be permitted with the exception of the front strut cross bar.

5 Transmission & Driveline The transmission and/or transaxle must be for the make and model of the car in competition.

A. All forward and reverse gears must be operational.

B. The flywheel, flex plate, clutch and/or torque converter and/or assembly must remain unaltered and OEM of the year, make and model of the car in competition.

C. Mini-type clutches and/or couplers will not be permitted.  

D. Transmission coolers in the driver compartment will not be permitted.

E. Torque dividing final drive systems will not be permitted.

F. Locked differentials are permitted. Limited slip differential’s and Locking of differential by welding of gears is allowed.

G. A minimum one (1) inch inspection hole must be located in the bell housing.

H. All Axle shafts must be painted white

6. Chassis/Frame 

A. All chassis and frames must remain unaltered and OEM. Any front wheel drive, compact car frame will be permitted.

 B. A maximum wheelbase of 107-inches will be permitted.

C. The magnetic steel floor pan must remain unaltered and OEM. Any work that is done in the form of patches must be completed with magnetic steel.

 7. Roll Cage

A. Unless otherwise noted all tubing utilized in the construction of the roll cage must be round 1.50-inch Outside Diameter, .095-inch thick magnetic steel tubing.

B. A six-point, full perimeter cage, using 1.50-inch Outside Diameter, .095-inch thick magnetic steel tubing is required.

 C. The rear hoop must have bracing that crosses in an ‘X’ configuration. Rear kick up supports are required. 

D. A minimum 1.25-inch outside diameter cross bar is required across the top of the halo bar.

E. The roll cage must be securely fastened (welding is required) utilizing a minimum of .250-inch plating to mount cage to the frame. Only magnetic steel will be permitted. (The use of Iron, galvanized pipe, fittings, square tubing, brazing and/or soldering will not be permitted).

F.A minimum of three (3) door bars on the driver side and driver side must have a girth plate of 1/8" Steel Plate Mounted To Outside Of Bar From Top To Bottom, extending from 8 inches behind driver or to the upright bar behind driver, to the A pillar in front of driver, So As To Protect Driver.  And two (2) door bars on the passenger side, mounted in a horizontal manner will be required. Vertical bracing from the top-to-the-bottom of the door bars on both sides is required.

G. A minimum of three (3) windshield bars and protective screen will be required in front of the driver. 

H. The driver compartment must be sealed completely from the track, the engine and the fuel cell. The front and rear firewalls must remain and any holes must be patched with magnetic steel.

I. Mirrors will not be permitted.

J. Gutting of the car will not be permitted with the exception of clearance for the roll and door bars. All material considered flammable including airbags must be removed.

 K. The interior can be decked with aluminum so long as driver can exit out either side of window hole left or right, remember all rules above still apply.

 8. Weight

A. Car must weigh 2200 lbs after any race with driver. Additional weight of any type will not be permitted. Any item(s) that are deemed to provide additional weight must be removed. All Cars must be marked on LF as to its minimum weight, example car with a weight break must read (2150 # min wt)

B. Exceptions:

1. 50 lb. weight break for HANS or like devices.   

2. 50 lb. weight break for full containment seat.

3. 100lb weight break for fire suppression system

 9. Fuel Cells and Fuel

A. The fuel system must be complete, unaltered and OEM for the year, make and model of the car in competition.

B. Only standard pump gasoline will be permitted for competition. A maximum of 93 octane. NO E85 OR Performance additives NOT BE PERMITTED. (For testing base line will be established using the gas from Main & High Short stop in Frankfort).

C. The RECOMMENDED gas tank/fuel cell arrangements are as follows:

1. The gas tanks mounted ahead of the rear axle must have a minimum 1/8-inch shield of magnetic metal mounted under it to prevent object from puncturing tank

2. If the gas tank/fuel cell is mounted behind the rear axle or you want to move it from in front of rear axle, the gas tank/fuel cell MUST be replaced with a maximum eight (8) gallon fuel cell that meets or exceeds FIA/FT3 or SFI 28.3 specifications located to the trunk area of the car. Those who choose to use this option MUST install and use the cell in accordance with the FIA/FT3 or SFI 28.3 specification, and cannot alter the cell in any way. NO OTHER TYPE OF FUEL CELL IS ALLOWED IN THIS LOCATION.

2A. All cells must be mounted to a 1″ x 1″(minimum) square tubing frame that is welded to frame supports. Minimum of 4 – 2″ steel straps completely around cell.

 3. The trunk area must have a firewall between it and the driver’s compartment that is completely sealed.

4. A fuel cell vent, including cap vent, must have a check valve. If the fuel cell does not have an aircraft-type positive seal filler neck, then a flapper, spring and/or ball type filler roll-over valve is mandatory.

5. External electric fuel pump wired to the ignition switch with aftermarket fuel cell will be permitted.

6. All cars must be equipped with a fuel pump safety oil pressure switch.

7. Cool cans will not be permitted.

8. Fuel lines that pass through the driver compartment must be magnetic steel.

 10. Body

A. The body must be neat clean & remain unaltered and OEM in appearance repairs can be made with steel sheet metal or aluminum if aluminum is used the steel body must remain under it as much as possible all cars must be OEM in appearance.

Sun roofs must be filled in neatly, All A,& B pillars must be in place, Cars must look like a race car straight, clean, neatly painted, and lettered. 

B. Any front wheel drive, compact car will be permitted for competition. Station wagons, convertibles, trucks, and/or two seat cars will not be permitted.

C. The body must remain unaltered and OEM in appearance. After market bumper covers allowed [no wedge stile bumper covers permitted.

 D. The inner fenders must remain unaltered and OEM. Removing of the inner fenders will not be permitted.

E. The hood and trunk lid / hatchback must be positively and securely fastened.

F. All doors must be positively and securely fastened. Must be welded. 

G. All glass, exterior lights, chrome and/or plastic trim and hood insulation must be removed.

H. The dashboard may be removed.  

I. Front and rear bumpers must be positively and securely fastened. Welded, chained and/or cabled to the frame will be permitted.

J. A front and rear tow hook capable of lifting the car, easily accessible will be required. K. Can use OEM or AFTER MARKET front nose piece and rear bumper cover must be conformed to fit at reasonable and near-factory dimensions. [NO WEDGE STYLE BUMPER COVERS] bumper covers must remain on the vehicle, but may be altered to allow for tow hook.

 L. A maximum seven (7) inch sun visor will be permitted the opera windows may be closed and/or sealed. No closing, sealing, or blocking of side windows in front of the B post. Moving window frames to change the factory sizing will result in disqualification; driver must be able to exit either side window in case of roll over.

M. WINDOW NETS ARE MANDATORY 

11. Suspension

A.  All components and mounts must remain unaltered and OEM and must match the make and model of car in competition for rear and front suspensions must be stock as came as from factory, Slotting of factory mounting holes allowed. Plating for safety is allowed.

B. Weight jacks, modifications, racing components, aftermarket or homemade traction devices will not be permitted.

 C. The car must remain in alignment from front-to-rear and must track straight front to back.

D. A maximum of 5 degrees of camber will be permitted on any wheel.

E. Center mounted steering will not be permitted.

F. A quick release, aftermarket steering wheel will be permitted. The steering column must remain OEM and unaltered.

G. Aftermarket remote reservoir power steering will not be permitted.

 H. All shocks and struts must remain unaltered and OEM in the OEM location No racing springs or shocks allowed. Driver or crew must have tools to safely remove struts for tech

I. Springs may be heated, clamped Spring rubbers will be permitted. Springs must be within 2" of factory-installed height. Stock rear control arms may be braced / strengthened / repaired. No adjustable control arm. 

12. Brakes

A. All brake components must be unaltered, OEM, magnetic steel and operative on all four wheels. 3 wheel braking permitted with right rear safety hub.

B. Disc and/or drum brakes will be permitted and they must match the make and model of the vehicle in competition.

C. Only OEM Master Cylinders in OEM location will be permitted.

D. Brake shut off and/or valve bias adjuster(s) will not be permitted.

E. Only magnetic steel or stainless brake lines will be permitted.

 13. Wheels and Tires

A. Only OEM DOT 13, 14, 15 or 16-inch passenger tires will be permitted. Racing, mud, and/or snow tires will not be permitted. Tires can be mixed and matched for stagger.

B. Alterations of any type including re-caps, softening, chemical alteration, conditioning, siping and/or grooving will not be permitted.

C. All wheels must be OEM steel or aluminum wheels with a maximum width of seven (7) inches and a standard bead. Bead lock allowed on Right Front wheel only.

D. Racing wheels are permitted. Maximum seven (7) inches width

E. Wheel spacers and/or bleeder valves will not be permitted.

F. Wheel reinforcement is strongly recommended.

G. One (1) inch Outside Diameter magnetic steel lug nuts on steel wheels are required, on all cars not using OEM aluminum wheels.
